Mom’s Fudge and Reindeer Food

Mom’s Fudge and Reindeer Food

Since it’s the holidays, I have been making up some sweet treats for friends or as hostess gifts. This week, I made a batch of my Mom’s super easy fudge and Molly’s favorite Christmas treat, Reindeer Food. My mom has made this fudge for as long as I can remember and I was always so intimidated at the thought of making homemade fudge…that is, until I saw how few ingredients were in it and truly how easy it was. I make these and wrap them up as sweet treat gifts for teachers, friends, or bring a nice assortment when I go to a friend’s dinner party during the season. Give them a try and be forewarned: the reindeer food is addictive!

Ingredients for Mom’s Fudge
3 1/2 cups of semisweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 (14 ounce) can of sweetened condensed milk
1/4 cup butter
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
Colorful sprinkles, M&M’s, or whatever else you may want to decorate the fudge with
Holiday-themed cookie cutters
Parchment paper
Place sweetened condensed milk, butter, vanilla in a pan and warm through. Turn the heat off and add the chocolate chips, and slowly melt the chocolate in the the milk mixture. Add the chopped nuts and stir. Spoon the fudge into the cookie cutters than are arranged on a sheet of parchment paper. Decorate the fudge while it is still warm and let them cool. Once they are cooled, you may package them up of enjoy.

Ingredients for Reindeer Food
½ cup chocolate chips
½ cup chocolate Nutella
4½ cups Corn Chex cereal
2 tbsp butter
2 cups powdered sugar
Red and Green M&Ms

In a bowl, melt the butter, chocolate chips, and nutella. Melt them in 30-second stages. Melt for 30, remove/stir and continue doing this 2 more times. Once it is mixed, pour the chocolate mixture over the chex and stir, coating the cereal evenly. Transfer the chex to a ziplock bag containing the powdered sugar. Seal the bag and shake like you’ve never shook before. Once all the cereal is coated in the powdered sugar, toss in red and green m&m’s and serve. You can store it in the bag for a couple of weeks. But if your house is anything like mine, it would last 2 days.
