Juices for Flu and Cold Recovery

I caught the flu bug last week and wound up being pretty sick for a couple of days. To speed up my recovery, I decided to make some juices with fruits and veggies that are in season. I ended up making two juices for flu and cold recovery that made me feel worlds better that same day, giving me more energy and providing me with all the nutrients I needed even though my appetite wasn’t at 100%. Both of these juices are great for flu and cold recovery, takes very little time to make, and can be made into a delicious juice or blended as a yummy smoothie.

Beet the Flu Juice

What you will need

  • 2 beets
  • 2 apples
  • 1 cup of strawberries
  • 2 oranges
  • 2 inches of ginger root, sliced

I absolutely loved this juice because it tasted like a strawberry treat! Strawberries and oranges are both natural energy boosters, and are packed with Vitamin C. The beets are great because they cleanse your body (they work as a blood purifier) and the pigment that gives them that beautiful red, betalain, is a powerful antioxidant and is anti-inflammatory, fungicidal, and detoxifies as well. Throw some ginger in there to boost your appetite (it stimulates the digestive juices) and to aid in the absorption of essential nutrients in your body.

Before you juice or blend the ginger, make sure you peel and slice it into 1/2-inch slices. Wash all your fruits thoroughly and cut them up into 1-inch slices, then toss them in your juicer or blender. And don’t forget to peel the orange!

Lean, Green, Recovery Machine

What you will need

  • 1 bunch of kale
  • 3 pears
  • 1 grapefruit
  • 1 cup of pineapple (optional)
  • 2 inches of ginger root, sliced

Kale is one of the most antioxidant and nutrient-rich greens, and is packed with fiber and sulfur, which helps to detoxify your body. Between the grapefruit and kale, you’ll have all the Vitamin C you need to beat the flu and send it running. The pears and grapefruit will give you a nice energy boost, and pears not only soothe a sore throat, they’ll also give your tired immune system a nice boost. Add some ginger in there to round out your immunity boost and battle that cough, and feel free to toss in a cup of pineapple to sweeten the juice if you’d like.

Just like the Beet the Flu Juice, you can blend this recipe into a smoothie or make a nice juice in your juicer. Happy recovery!
